Portrait of Marina Elizalde
“I like to describe my works as urban and intuitive.”
“Finding them between the composure of order and the honesty of emotion.”

Biography

I was born in Buenos Aires in 1969 and currently live and work in the San Telmo neighborhood. As a visual artist, my language unfolds through geometric abstraction, collage, color and the exploration of space.

I define my works as urban and intuitive pieces; in each of them I seek and find the composure of order and the honesty of emotion.

Statement

To inhabit is an act of creation, a constant dialogue between the individual and the space around them. In my paintings I examine the intersection of the urban and the personal, where cityscapes become maps of memory and emotion.

I am fascinated by the ways cities unfold, with their noise and silence, their inhabited and empty spaces. Through my work I seek to uncover the secrets and stories hidden in every corner, and to project my own ideal world.

My starting point is always the city. I walk and pause over its details: the meeting of buildings, the sky reflected in windows, the solidity of asphalt, the light and shadow on street corners. Then I let those shapes and textures settle onto the canvas.

I paint what I see, but above all what I perceive, what I feel along that attentive walk. My intuition guides my brush. I don’t choose the colors; they find me. And so, in my own way, I move through the structure of the city with the sensitivity of pigment.

At the intersection of geometry and the city, I find a visual language that reveals the essence of urban spaces. Light and shadow bring my compositions to life, built from the primary colors. Each work is a fragment of the metropolis, reinterpreted through geometric abstraction: a slice of the city seen through form and color.
